Mikaela, I thought I heard you say that I am good because I have nothing to lose. Actually people are anxious to discredit me. That means plenty of people are eager to find reasons not to listen to me. I have to be good for the racers not to totally discount everything I say. I am good to great. There are many reasons for this. First you should know that I started coaching with the local pro teams in baseball, basketball. and a very slight bit in hockey for mostly the Bay Area. After a while they gave me the monicker, the Bay Area Super Fan. I was famous as a coach before I even started to coach / comment on women's world cup ski racing. I also have been hoping to find a very compatible female partner. I have a type A personality. I have ski raced in my past. I think many of the female world cup alpine ski racers have type A personalities. This increases the odds of success. Thus making a laughing stock of myself would destroy that objective. Thus I do have something to lose, it is just not a monetary something at this time. Keep in mind that many non-racer people would probably like to destroy my reputation as a coach and even as a man. Then there are also people like Penhoet. He is very mentally disturbed when it comes to me. He suffers from a PTSD derived hatred of my type of preppy from his time as an undergraduate at Stanford. Some of the men have tended to value what I say because I have an engineering background. I also was an excellent squash racquets player. This means I am used to seeing the ball go around the court at 100-160 mph. This is helpful when looking at ski racing. Yes, I can look at replays and slo-motion. However, more than most other people I can pick up miscues in real time at full speed. Then I can look at them in slo-motion, etc. to see if I am correct. It is much easier to be able to detect the problems immediately. I also paly tennis, which can be very high speed also. In the above regard, it is helpful to have a good ski racing background. I have made many of the mistakes myself. As you more than others know I am very familiar with possible injuries. This helps me coach to prevent them from happening. It helps me tell people what they are most likely facing. For instance, I knew you got a hip pointer at the Olympics in China. I also saw what the heavy, grabby snow was doing to your usual technique. I also want to be taken seriously because I genuinely do want to help the racers. I cannot do that if they do not listen to me. They will only do that if I manage to be mostly good to great. I have had a lot of injuries. Thus I try to steer the racers away from them. I know why they occur. However, I also try to help racers go at higher speeds; but I try to emphasize balance and control to make them "safe" racers (prevent injuries). Perhaps my engineering background does help in that area. For instance I have taken such Mechanical Engineering courses as Statics and Dynamics. There are many other courses which apply less directly. As a writer I am probably a bit better aware of how to communicate with others. For example I have published over 1100 professional financial articles. You do learn a bit more about communicating by doing that. Of course, it still helps if I can communicate in English. Fortunately that is a commonly taught language in Europe. Petra got me to try to make fewer careless mistakes. That probably helps. Then I have learned by watching, commenting, and thinking about world cup alpine ski racing for the last 5 years or so. I have in the past been in the position of thinking as a racer would for real and in real time. All told, you would have to think I would be likely to be a good to great coach. It is not just that I have nothing to lose. David White

Tough Mudder 2012 - Maysville, KY. At the conclusion of the race, there were a couple of Marines who were talking about how they'd been going to Tough Mudder events all around the country. In their estimation, the Maysville event was, without a doubt, the toughest one they did.

So great to see the level of attention that rugby is getting here in the US. Awesome video. But I gotta say that the Monster facilities that Cal University have totally blown me away.. I came from one of the top rugby teams in Argentina (Hindu Club) I played with many Pumas and an ex Wallabie Patricio Noriega and to be part of a team that has been the most national championship-winning team in the past 20 + years does NOT need such fireworks (such facilities) to perform consistently at the highest national level.. We don't have even a 1/4 of all that there. My question is, Is it really necessary all that?
